    1. How did you know about this program and what was your purpose to apply for it?

In May 2019, I received a license for quality management, but I had no experience in quality management at all.

Experience is the most important factor in getting a job these days. Before finishing the last semester,

I knew about the on-the-job training supported by my university.

Despite I could do the internship training in Korea, the reason why I applied overseas internship is

because I wanted to take a special opportunity overseas.

I thought it was a good opportunity to learn my ability to overcome difficult communication in an unfamiliar environment.

Second, I wanted to build a global mindset. A variety of ethnic groups (Malaysians, Chinese, Indians, etc.) w

ere living in Malaysia, so that I thought that I can understand and

communicate diverse cultures and would not be confined to the domestic but could gain a broader view.

    2. Introduce about your internship company

I had a quality management internship at a fire protection equipment company called Fire Fighter.

Established in 1974, Fire Fighter Industry Sdn. Bhd. is Malaysia’s market leader in the industry of fire prevention and protection.

Based in Kuala Lumpur along the Federal Highway,

Fire Fighter® represents the forefront of  the industry of fire safety and protection within Malaysia.

Fire Fighter has two bosses, one is woman boss and other boss is man, they are married couple.

As an ISO-certified company, having been awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2008,

Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance in recognition of its manufacturing standards of its portable fire extinguishers,

Fire Fighter® has further ascended to a higher level as being the first in Malaysia to achieve an integrated system

that is certified ISO 14001:2004 for the manufacturing and servicing of portable fire extinguishers (Dry Powder and CO2),

servicing, installation and maintenance of Fire Protection Systems.

    3. What did you usually do during internship

In the first three weeks I filed a lot in my office.

On the first week, I looked up the files of the customers who were responsible for each of the four salesmen,

recorded the maintenance service schedule, and scanned the contracts when the contracts were available,

On the second and third week, I took charge of the general manager’s customer list similar to the first week,

sorted out the file data of all the salesmen’s customers in the latest date order,

managed the quotation and contract by distinguishing the Have file and No file.

And I moved away old files with the new files. From the 4th week,

I visited the factory and learned about the process of manufacturing Fire Fighter’s fire extinguisher,

quality control check and specifications, safety management rules, and measured product specifications directly.

One day, National Geographic was shooting Fire Fighter and I watched shooting process.

The Fire Fighter’s factory is smaller than other factories because it manufactures only fire extinguishers.

Thankfully, Boss gave me an opportunity to visit the Samsung factory,

so I checked the Samsung factory’s product process and asked their difficulties.

Thankfully, Boss gave me an opportunity to visit the Samsung factory,

so I checked the Samsung‘s product process and answered my difficulties.

On the last day of my work, I made an announcement about the improvement of the fire fighter. For the presentation,

I conducted a survey of the workers and reflected their opinions and opinions from me and my colleagues.

At the end of the presentation, I have successfully completed my internship.

    4. Self Evaluation

Unlike Korea, Malaysia has a diverse population.

Even though they are different ethnic groups, the employees are as friendly as the people

and have free opinions regardless of their positions.

Koreans are strong in competition and still have a vertical structure,

and stress and pressure to work are strong because they prefer to do fast work whatever they do. Malaysia,

on the other hand, is less stressful and has more frequent interaction with people because they work with leisure.

The staff helped each other to be difficult without delaying their work.

I was able to get along well with my staff because I was kind and relaxed without people teaching strictly.

And even though I was an intern, they bought me a delicious lunch

and I had a chance to tour it, and I had the opportunity to visit other companies as well.

This has made me more interested in showing up to those who are good to me and more passionate about my work.

Through this, I was able to feel a sense of belonging

and I learned that free communication among employees is one of the great driving forces to grow the company.
